The alloy is usually supplied in heat-treated tempers such as T61 or T851. It is solution treated near 530 degrees C, quenched, then artificially aged around 190 to 200 degrees C. In those conditions 2618 reaches an ultimate tensile strength of about 400 to 440 MPa (58 to 64 ksi), a yield strength of 320 to 370 MPa, and elongation in the 5 to 10% range. It holds strong creep resistance and fatigue strength, with an endurance limit near 124 MPa, even after long exposure to 150 to 200 degrees C (300 to 390 degrees F). Density is about 2.76 g/cm3, and it machines well in the aged condition. Confirm property values against the mill certification, since they vary with thickness and temper.

The standout trait is heat. AMS 4181 keeps its static and dynamic mechanical properties at high temperature better than many peers such as 2014 and standard 2xxx grades.
