PM Industries manufactures, supplies, and stocks Hastelloy G3 Round Bar (UNS N06985). It's a nickel-chromium-iron alloy with molybdenum, copper, and cobalt additions, developed as an improved version of Hastelloy G with better weldability and more consistent corrosion performance in fabricated structures. The controlled niobium addition in G3 limits sensitization during welding, which is a practical advantage over earlier G-family alloys in applications that involve extensive weld fabrication.

G3 sits in a similar corrosion service space as G30, but with a lower chromium content and different balance of oxidizing versus reducing acid resistance. Where G30 is optimized for highly oxidizing acid environments, G3 performs well across a broader range of mixed oxidizing and reducing conditions, making it more versatile in chemical plants where process streams aren't always uniform in chemistry.

Sulfuric acid resistance is one of G3's strongest performance characteristics. Across dilute to moderately concentrated sulfuric acid, at temperatures that would attack standard stainless steels and many other nickel alloys, G3 maintains low corrosion rates. That covers a range of service conditions common in chemical manufacturing, acid production, and industrial process systems.

Chloride resistance matters in applications where process streams contain both acids and chloride contamination, a common situation in chemical plant environments. G3 resists pitting and crevice attack in those mixed conditions better than austenitic stainless grades, extending service life in equipment like heat exchangers, reactors, and piping systems where chlorides accumulate in stagnant zones.

Weldability is a genuine practical advantage of G3 over older G-family alloys. The controlled niobium content prevents carbide precipitation in the heat-affected zone, which in earlier versions of Hastelloy G was a source of intergranular corrosion after welding. Fabricated vessels, heat exchangers, and piping systems made from G3 maintain their corrosion resistance through the weld zone reliably.
