PM Industries manufactures, supplies, and stocks 310 Stainless Steel Round Bar (UNS S31000). It's a high-chromium, high-nickel austenitic stainless steel with approximately 25% chromium and 20% nickel, developed specifically for high-temperature service where oxidation resistance and structural stability at heat are the primary requirements. The high chromium content is what gives 310 its oxidation resistance advantage over lower-chromium grades like 304 and 316. The high nickel content stabilizes the fully austenitic structure across the full service temperature range, preventing the ferritic transformation that can occur in lower-nickel grades at elevated temperatures.

310 is the standard specification for high-temperature service in the range where 304 and 316 reach their practical limits but where the cost and complexity of nickel superalloys aren't justified. It handles continuous service up to approximately 1050°C and intermittent service to approximately 1150°C, which covers the majority of industrial furnace, heat treatment, and thermal processing applications.

Oxidation resistance is strong across the alloy's operating range. The thick chromium-rich oxide that forms on 310 in air and combustion environments limits further surface attack reliably up through its rated continuous service temperature. For furnace components, radiant tubes, burner hardware, and kiln furniture that accumulate thousands of hours of thermal exposure, that surface stability is the difference between acceptable and premature service life.

Carburization resistance is moderate and adequate for many industrial furnace applications. 310 handles low to moderate carbon activity environments reliably, which covers a significant portion of heat treatment furnace service. For high carbon activity at very high temperatures, or for carburizing furnace fixtures that must last many cycles, alloys with higher nickel content or aluminum additions like Alloy 330, 601, or 602CA provide better protection. Within its range, though, 310 performs well and remains the most cost-effective specification for many general-purpose high-temperature furnace applications.

Thermal cycling performance is good. The fully austenitic structure doesn't undergo phase transformations during heating and cooling, which avoids the dimensional changes and cracking that can occur in ferritic or duplex grades when cycled through high temperatures. That stability makes 310 reliable for batch heat treatment equipment, annealing lines, and other applications where thermal cycling is part of normal operation.
