Tensile strength runs from 860 to 1100 MPa, with a yield strength of approximately 450 MPa. That's close to twice the strength of conventional austenitic grades, combined with 30% elongation and hardness of approximately 250 HV. The alloy holds its mechanical properties up to 900°C, with good oxidation resistance and minimal scaling throughout that range.

The elevated silicon, manganese, and nitrogen content is what gives Nitronic 60 its wear and galling resistance. In metal-to-metal contact under load, without lubrication, standard austenitic steels gall and seize. Nitronic 60 resists that. Fasteners, valve stems, pump shafts, and fittings that go through repeated assembly and disassembly are natural fits for this alloy.

Corrosion resistance is strong across a wide range of environments. The alloy resists pitting, crevice corrosion, and general corrosion in both acidic and chloride-containing media, performing reliably in marine, offshore, and chemical processing service.
