Niobium (Nb, atomic number 41) is a soft, gray, ductile transition metal with a melting point of 2,477°C and a density of 8.57 g/cm³. Bars are produced from high-purity niobium metal at 99.5% purity minimum.

Corrosion resistance is one of niobium's most useful characteristics. It performs comparably to tantalum in many corrosive environments, including strong acids such as sulfuric, hydrochloric, and nitric. That makes it a practical choice for chemical processing equipment, reactor vessels, heat exchangers, and piping systems handling aggressive media.

At elevated temperatures, niobium round bars maintain their mechanical properties up to 800°C in vacuum or inert gas environments. Above that threshold, an inert or protective atmosphere is required to prevent oxidation. Aerospace components, furnace hardware, and high-temperature structural parts are common uses at this end of the temperature range.

The material's ductility is notable for a refractory metal. It cold works well, which gives fabricators the ability to produce complex geometries without cracking or loss of structural integrity during forming.
