PM Industries manufactures, supplies, and stocks Inconel 600 Round Bar (UNS N06600). It's a nickel-chromium alloy that's been in continuous industrial service for over a century, and it remains one of the most widely used nickel alloys for high-temperature and corrosion-resistant applications. The high nickel content, approximately 72%, provides strong resistance to reducing environments and chloride stress corrosion cracking. The chromium addition gives it oxidation resistance and protection against sulfur-containing gases at elevated temperatures. Together they produce a solid-solution strengthened alloy with good mechanical properties and a very broad application range.

600 is not a specialty alloy for narrow service windows. It's a general-purpose nickel-chromium grade that performs reliably across a wide range of temperatures and environments. That versatility, combined with its long track record and straightforward fabrication characteristics, explains why it continues to be specified in furnace equipment, nuclear reactors, chemical plant hardware, and aerospace components across many decades of industrial use.
Chloride stress corrosion cracking resistance is one of 600's consistent advantages over austenitic stainless steels. In environments where chloride content and temperature combine to create stress corrosion conditions, stainless grades like 304 and 316 are susceptible. Inconel 600's nickel content places it well above the resistance threshold, making it reliable in applications where chloride exposure is part of the service condition.
Oxidation resistance is good across a wide temperature range. For intermittent service, 600 maintains surface integrity up to approximately 1175°C. In continuous service the practical limit is lower, around 1040°C, above which oxidation rates accelerate. For the most demanding continuous high-temperature oxidation service, alloys like 601 or Haynes 214 with aluminum additions provide better performance. But for the broad range of furnace, heat exchanger, and chemical plant applications that don't push those limits, 600 performs reliably and cost-effectively.
Nuclear service is a historically significant application for 600. It's been used extensively in pressurized water reactor steam generator tubing and structural components, and its behavior in high-temperature water environments is very well documented. Current nuclear applications continue to specify 600 for components where its combination of corrosion resistance, strength, and fabricability fits the design requirements.
