PM Industries manufactures, supplies, and stocks Super Duplex 32760 Round Bar (UNS S32760). It's a super duplex stainless steel containing approximately 25% chromium, 3.5% molybdenum, 7% nickel, 0.7% tungsten, and 0.2–0.3% nitrogen, producing a PREN consistently above 40. The tungsten addition is the distinguishing compositional feature that separates S32760 from S32750. Both are recognized super duplex grades with very similar overall performance, but the tungsten in S32760 contributes additional pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in certain aggressive chloride environments, particularly at elevated temperatures.

S32760 was originally developed under the trade name Zeron 100, and it carries NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 qualification for sour service, which makes it a credible specification for oil and gas production equipment alongside S32750. Engineers selecting between the two typically rely on the specific corrosion data for their process chemistry and temperature, as both grades cover the same broad application space with slightly different compositional approaches.

Pitting resistance at PREN above 40, reinforced by the tungsten addition, means S32760 handles seawater and concentrated chloride process streams at temperatures where standard duplex 2205 and most austenitic grades would show localized attack. In offshore heat exchangers, desalination evaporators, and chemical plant equipment handling hot concentrated brine or chloride-contaminated process streams, S32760 provides reliable service where lower-PREN alloys have demonstrated premature failure in field service.

Tungsten's contribution to corrosion resistance in S32760 is most evident in crevice corrosion situations. Crevices in heat exchanger tube-to-tubesheet joints, flanged piping connections, and gasket contact areas concentrate chlorides and reduce local pH over time, creating conditions more aggressive than the bulk process stream. The combined effect of high molybdenum and tungsten in S32760 provides better crevice corrosion resistance in those conditions than molybdenum alone provides in S32750.

Sour service qualification to NACE MR0175 makes S32760 practical for oil and gas production equipment in H2S-containing environments. The duplex microstructure provides better resistance to sulfide stress cracking than austenitic grades, and the NACE qualification confirms that resistance has been verified under standardized test conditions.

Welding requires careful procedure control. Matching or slightly overalloyed super duplex filler metal, controlled heat input, appropriate interpass temperature limits, and post-weld solution annealing where required all contribute to maintaining the correct phase balance and corrosion performance in the weld and heat-affected zone. Properly executed weld procedures produce joints with corrosion resistance consistent with the base material.
