PM Industries manufactures, supplies, and stocks Nickel 200 Round Bar (UNS N02200). It's commercially pure nickel at 99.6% minimum nickel content, and it's the standard wrought pure nickel grade for most industrial applications. The high nickel content is what drives its performance. Pure nickel has an inherent resistance to alkalis and caustic solutions that nickel alloys can dilute, which makes Nickel 200 the preferred specification in caustic service rather than a nickel alloy with lower nickel content.

One important service limitation applies. Above approximately 315°C in reducing or sulfur-containing atmospheres, Nickel 200's carbon content can cause graphitization, which embrittles the material over time. For elevated temperature service above that threshold, Nickel 201 with its lower carbon content (0.02% maximum versus 0.15% maximum in 200) is the correct specification. Below 315°C, 200 serves reliably across a broad range of chemical and industrial environments.

Caustic resistance is the application where Nickel 200 has the clearest advantage over alternative materials. In sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide service across a wide concentration range, including hot concentrated caustic conditions that attack stainless steels and many other alloys, Nickel 200 maintains low corrosion rates reliably. Evaporators, pipelines, vessels, and handling equipment in chlor-alkali plants and chemical manufacturing facilities specify Nickel 200 specifically for that resistance.

Corrosion resistance extends to many other environments. The alloy handles most neutral and slightly acidic salt solutions, many organic acids, and a range of food-grade process environments without significant attack. It's also good in reducing acids at moderate concentrations, though strong oxidizing acids like concentrated nitric are outside its practical service range.

Electrical and thermal conductivity are useful for electronics and heat transfer applications. The combination of high conductivity, corrosion resistance, and good formability makes Nickel 200 practical for electrical lead-throughs, contacts, and components in electrochemical processes where both conductivity and corrosion resistance are required simultaneously.

Surface purity matters in certain applications. The clean, non-contaminating character of commercially pure nickel makes it suitable for food processing equipment, pharmaceutical handling systems, and specialized chemical processes where even trace metal contamination from the equipment material is unacceptable.
