PM Industries manufactures, supplies, and stocks Haynes 230 Round Bar (UNS N06230). It's a solid-solution strengthened nickel-chromium-tungsten-molybdenum alloy developed for long-term service at high temperatures. Tungsten and molybdenum contribute to solid-solution strengthening at temperature, while the high chromium content provides oxidation and carburization resistance. A small lanthanum addition improves oxide scale adhesion, which extends surface life during thermal cycling.

Haynes 230 is positioned between standard nickel alloys like 625 and premium gamma-prime strengthened superalloys. It offers better high-temperature strength than 625 in the 980°C to 1150°C range, with considerably better fabricability than alloys like Waspaloy or Haynes 282. For fabricated components and welded assemblies that need reliable long-term performance above 980°C, it's a practical and well-proven choice.
Oxidation resistance is consistent and reliable up through the alloy's rated service range. The lanthanum-modified oxide scale adheres well during thermal cycling, which is critical for components that heat and cool repeatedly rather than running at steady state. Spalling and scale loss are significantly reduced compared to alloys without that addition.
Carburization resistance matters for furnace applications and chemical processing equipment where carbon-rich atmospheres are part of the service environment. HR-120 and 310 stainless are sometimes considered for those conditions, but Haynes 230 performs better at the higher end of the temperature range where carbon absorption becomes a more serious risk.
Creep performance is good over long service intervals. Dimensionally critical components, such as turbine transition ducts, combustor liners, and furnace support structures, hold their shape under sustained thermal load without progressive deformation.
Fabricability is a genuine practical advantage. Haynes 230 can be welded, formed, and machined using procedures appropriate for high-temperature nickel alloys. It doesn't require the highly controlled welding environments that some gamma-prime alloys demand, which makes fabricated structure and complex assembly work more straightforward.
