PM Industries manufactures, supplies, and stocks Forged Round Bar across a range of material grades including stainless steel, alloy steel, carbon steel, nickel alloys, and titanium. Forging works the metal under high pressure at elevated temperature, refining the grain structure in a way that casting and bar rolling don't replicate. The result is a product with better mechanical properties throughout the cross-section, not just at the surface.

The practical difference between forged and non-forged bar matters most in demanding applications. Internal voids, segregation, and directional weaknesses that can exist in cast or continuously cast material are substantially reduced in forged product. For shafts, valve bodies, gear blanks, and structural components that carry significant mechanical load in service, that internal integrity directly affects reliability and service life.

Fatigue resistance is where a forged bar consistently outperforms cast alternatives in rotating and dynamically loaded components. The continuous, oriented grain flow produced during forging resists crack initiation and propagation more effectively than the random grain structure in cast material. For crankshafts, pump shafts, connecting rods, and other components that accumulate stress cycles during service, that fatigue advantage directly extends component life between inspections or replacements.

Internal integrity matters for pressure-containing components like valve bodies, flanges, and pressure vessel nozzles. The reduced porosity and void content in forged material provides more reliable leak-free performance under pressure than cast alternatives, which is why many pressure equipment standards and specifications require or prefer forged material for critical pressure-retaining parts.

Material grade selection covers the full range of service requirements. Carbon and alloy steel forgings cover general structural and mechanical service. Stainless steel forgings, in grades from 304L and 316L through duplex 2205 and super duplex 2507, cover corrosion-resistant applications. Nickel alloy forgings in grades like Inconel 625, Inconel 718, and Hastelloy C-276 cover the most demanding corrosive and high-temperature service conditions. Titanium forgings cover aerospace and marine applications where low weight and corrosion resistance are both required.

Forged round bar is available in a range of diameters, lengths, and material grades with full material certification to applicable ASTM, AMS, and NACE specifications.
