PM Industries manufactures, supplies, and stocks Incoloy 825 Round Bar (UNS N08825). It's a nickel-iron-chromium alloy with additions of molybdenum, copper, and titanium, developed to provide broad corrosion resistance in both oxidizing and reducing environments. The molybdenum and copper additions give it strong resistance to reducing acids like sulfuric and phosphoric. The high chromium content covers oxidizing conditions. Titanium stabilization prevents carbide precipitation during welding, maintaining corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zone without requiring post-weld annealing.

That combination places 825 in a practical middle ground between austenitic stainless steels and higher-alloy nickel grades like C-276 or 625. It outperforms 316L and 317L in most acid environments and in sour gas service, at a lower cost than the premium C-family or Inconel alloys. For chemical process equipment that needs more than stainless can provide but doesn't require the full performance of a C-276, 825 is frequently the right specification.

Sour gas resistance is one of the primary reasons 825 gets specified in oil and gas applications. In environments containing hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, and chlorides at elevated temperatures and pressures, austenitic stainless steels are susceptible to sulfide stress cracking and chloride stress corrosion cracking. Incoloy 825's higher nickel content puts it well above the threshold where those failure modes are a practical concern, making it reliable for downhole tubing, wellhead components, and process equipment in sour service.

Intergranular corrosion resistance in the welded condition is a meaningful practical advantage. Alloys without titanium or niobium stabilization can sensitize during welding, making the heat-affected zone susceptible to intergranular attack in corrosive service. The titanium in 825 prevents that, which simplifies fabrication of welded vessels, heat exchangers, and piping without the need for post-weld solution annealing.

Pitting and crevice corrosion resistance is good in chloride-containing process streams, seawater, and brine environments. In applications where stagnant zones, crevices at gaskets, or tube-to-tubesheet joints are a concern, 825 performs reliably where 316L would fail prematurely.
